Back up in the highlands, in 1925
Sat an old abandoned Pullman car, on an old forgotten line
Its wheels were worn and rusted, it's time had come and went
It looked like hell to her, he swore it was heaven sent

Soon she shared his vision, of a chapel on the tracks
They built a pulpit and some benches, put a bedroom in the back
By spring they had an organ, that she taught herself to play
They rode from town to town, up and down the Santa Fe

And the people came from near and far
To hear the gospel in the chapel car
To praise the lord and sing Amazing Grace,
Those old steel wheels were a welcome sound
To hungry souls in the frontier town
Chapel car it was their sacred place

Old women sat in the front row, the sinners sat in back
He preached hell, fire and brimstone, so's to keep 'em all on track
He baptized their babies, was a wedding now and then
His preaching had to last 'em, till he rolled back through again

And the people came from near and far
To hear the gospel in the chapel car
To praise the lord and sing Amazing Grace
Those old steel wheels were a welcome sound
To hungry souls in the frontier town
Chapel car it was their sacred place

The people came from near and far
To hear the gospel in the chapel car
To praise the lord and sing Amazing Grace
Those old steel wheels were a welcome sound
To hungry souls in the frontier town
Chapel car it was their sacred place
